Description: This stock medical exhibit features illustrations comparing the normal flow of oxygen from the heart with a patient suffering from severe pneumonia, sepsis and ARDS. The first image provides an overall anterior orientation view of a female figure. The heart, lungs and brain are shown over the figure and a pathway is included to show the flow of oxygen to the tissues. Two enlargements are included with the normal anatomy section to show the path of oxygen through the alveolar sacs in the lungs to the healthy brain tissue. The second image provides an overall anterior orientation view of the injured anatomy found in the patient. The figure's oxygen level has dropped due to her severe pneumonia, sepsis and ARDS. These conditions result in low oxygen (hypoxia) which damages the tissues. Two enlargements are also included to show the obstructed path of oxygen through the alveolar sacs in the lungs to the damaged brain tissue.
